Percy & Reed Volumising No Oil Oil for Fine Hair Review

Anyeong yeorobun~

Here is a review for Percy Reed Volumising No Oil Oil for Fine Hair. Bought this hair oil from Sephora, I found this brand concept looks chic and trendy, I chosen this hair oil for my fine hair. This multi-purpose hair oil claims to nourish, repair, add volume and protect hair from heat. Sounds good? Continue to read till the end to find out my conclusion about this hair oil.

In a plastic bottle with pump dispenser

 Description behind the bottle

Product profile:
Product Name: Percy & Reed Smoothed, Sealed & Sensational Volumising No Oil Oil For Fine Hair
Origin: UK
Content: 60ml
Price: RM85
Available: Sephora
Function: Hair Oil
Suitability: For fine hair

Description on the bottle
This little lifesaver containing violet extract gives you lovely locks which are smooth, sleek and shiny while also adding volume. It’s a multi-tasker too, nourishing and repairing hair, with pro vitamin B5 helping out with strength and wheat proteins protecting from heat. What more could you ask for?

Directions:
Work 1-2 drops of the oil through towel dried hair. Apply from root to tip.

Salon Secret:
Warm the oil in the palm of your hand and lightly run a large brush over the oil. Apply to the hair with the brush, smoothing any flyaways.

Ingredients:
Aqua, alcohol denat, parfum, PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil,  PEG-12  demethicone, hydroxyethylcellulose, polyquaternium-4, Disodium ETDA, Panthenol, Hydrolyzed wheat protein, PG-Propyl Silanetriol, Glycerin, Magnesium Nitrate, Benzyl Alcohol, Viola odorata leaf extract, phenoxyethanol, Magnesium chloride, Methylisothiazolinone, Butylparaben, Ethlyparaben, Isobutylparaben, Propylparaben.

Cosdna analysis here.

My thoughts:
A few of the ingredients mainly preservatives rated as safety concern. Better safe than sorry try not to in direct contact with scalp and wash hand after used. The oil consistency is not too thick nor too runny, scented in clear transparent colour. The scent linger on my hair and hands quite a while, which is quite annoying since I don’t really enjoy the scent. I used this oil both on damp and dry hair. It doesn’t weight down my hair which is good and it absorb quickly on hair without feeling oily. It doesn’t add shine on my hair, nor does it add volume, what a disappointment. It does smooth out flyaways hair that’s about it. Overall just an average hair oil with an expensive price tag, since many other hair oil with a cheaper price tag can perform the same result. This will not be a re-purchase item for me.

Recommended: 20 seconds on your forehead; 20 seconds down the nose and on the chin; 10 seconds each on either cheek. For best results, replace brush head every three months.

My thoughts:
I have been having this for a few years and still in good condition, very good quality product. It It makes my skin squeaky after cleansing but not drying. The brush is removable/changeable and recommended to change every 3 months and Clarisonic has many types of brush priced at RM125 each that you can choose from, from radiant, deep pore cleansing, normal, sensitive etc. I have tried most of it and I think the best one is the radiant and deep pore cleansing. Always go for the twin pack head brush which is value buy. If you are first time user, start with the sensitive brush first and then try other type of brush. I used to have clogged pores and dull skin before using this; since using this cleansing brush, the whiteheads/blackheads/acne underneath my skin are cleared (reduced my clogged pores) my skin are smoother and dullness reduced. Even Though the price is expensive, this product really delivers! Based on their quality, technology and innovation the price is a given. Superb quality superb price too.

Pros:
-Makes skin smooth and radiant
-Remove clogged pores
-Travel friendly
-Waterproof
-Cordless and chargeable
-Changeable brush heads
-Good quality, still in good condition after few years of usage

Cons:
-Expensive

Ingredients analysis from Cosdna indicated that mostly safe ingredients with a few yellow flagged.

My thoughts:
The texture of this BB cream is creamy but spreadable & buildable. Absorb easily on skin - doesn't wipe of skin, not oily, not greasy and not sticky. Slightly scented, smell a bit citrusy, it's like vitamin C's scent combined with cosmetics scent. The color is perfect match for me. After layering of skin care routine , gives a sheer finish with medium coverage - cover minor flaws and fine lines, however the coverage only about half a day. It's hydrating to skin and comfortable on skin. Bottom line, I like this multifunction BB cream, it's sunscreen and BB cream in one and also helps in correcting skin tone. I found this help slightly lightens dark spots with continuous usage. The downside is that this BB Cream is expensive given it's only 30ml, not budget friendly.

Pros:
-Not oily, not greasy, not sticky, easily absorb by skin
-Free from silicone, mineral-oil, fragrance, paraben
-High SPF 50 PA +++
-Lightens darks spot slightly with continuous usage

-Hydrating and non drying

Cons:
-Expensive

Hada Labo Super Hyaluronic Acid Moisturizing Eye Cream Review

Another long overdue review - Hada Labo Super Hyaluronic Acid Moisturizing Eye Cream. I used this eye cream way back when I am on a budget. After using their hype product Hada Labo Hydrating lotion, I am intrigued to try their other products as well. I have been searching for a good eye cream for the longest time and never been able to settle to one that really works, I probably empties & threw tons of eye cream / gel that I haven’t review in this blog. To me eyes are the hardest area to care / treat since it is the most delicate, it is also the first area that shows signs of aging – dark circles, fine lines, eye bag, wrinkles and puffiness. Read until the end of the post to find out my verdict about this eye cream.

Simple and neat packing

With pump

 Swatch

Lightweight cream

Product profile:
Product Name: Hada Labo Super Hyaluronic Acid Moisturizing Eye Cream
Origin: Japan
Content: 15g
Price: RM55
Available: Watson
Function: Eye cream
Suitability: All skin types

Product description:
-With 3 types of Hyaluronic Acid to deeply moisturize the delicate skin around the eyes for immediate suppleness and softness.
-Contain (ACTIFLOW) to visibly lighten dark circles and reduce puffiness.
-Contains natural Jojoba oil and extracts to effectively smoothen fine lines and aging skin around the eye area.
-Skin pH balance, low irritation, free of fragrances, mineral oil, alcohol and colorant.

How to use
Use twice a day after lotion (toner). Apply using fingertips, dab a small amount under the eye area. Gently pat onto skin.

Water, Propanediol, Cyclopentasiloxane/Dimethiconol, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, C14-22 Alcohols/C12-20 Alkyl Glucoside, Cyclopentasiloxane, Isononyl Isononanoate, Hydrogenated Palm Kernel Glycerides/Hydrogenated Palm Glycerides, Stearoxytrimethylsilane/Stearyl Alcohol, Jojoba Esters, Saccharomyces Cerevisiae Extract, Sodium Acrylate/Acryloyldimethyltaurate Copolymer/Isohexadecane/Polysorbate 80, Propylene Glycol/Diazolidinyl Urea/Methylparaben/Propylparaben, Sodium Hyaluronate, Hydrolyzed Hyaluronic Acid, Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein, Sodium Acetylated Hyaluronate

According to Cosdna analysis overall safe ingredients except about 5 ingredients flagged yellow and 1 ingredients flagged red.

My thoughts
The packing is simple in white, plastic container with pump and cap. The cream is creamy but light consistency of lotion-gel like, white in colour and is scentless which is great since no colouring and fragrance.  It’s lightweight, easily spread and absorb by skin, not sticky or oily. It hydrate my eyes area well. It makes fine lines less visible and dark circles slightly improved. I won’t comment on puffiness since I do not have this issue at time being. This is a good basic eye cream for young skin, for mature skin may consider Lancome Genefique Eyes and Lancome Advanced Genefique Yeus Light Pearl. Compare to many eye cream I've tried this is better even though not the best, good for day eye cream but not for night. I prefer rich and deep moisturizing eye cream for night.

Pros:
- Light weight, easily absorb by skin, doesn't ball up under layering
- Non oily, non sticky
- Hydrate eyes area well
- Fine lines less visible, dark circles slightly improve

Cons:
- Not rich enough for night usage
- Contain contraversial preservatives - Methlyparaben

Hada Labo Hydrating Lotion Light Review

Anyeong yeorobun~

Today I am reviewing a much hype product, Hada Labo Hydrating Lotion they have the original version which the first generation Hada Labo Lotion – slightly denser than the light version. The original version is for dry/normal skin while the light version is more for normal/combination/oily skin. I used the original version years back and this review is a long overdue, I will review both version and compare both in this post. This is a popular product which is widely available in major drugstore. According to Hada Labo (website) they first launched in Japan in 2004, its star product, Super Hyaluronic Acid Moisturizing Lotion is a clear favourite with beauty lovers and is ranked as the No.1 Japan lotion for 7 consecutive years and sold more than 30 million bottles. The key ingredients in Hada Labo products are Hyaluronic Acid (HA), Hyaluronic Acid (HA) is a substance naturally occurring in the human body that attracts and binds water. It acts as a lubricant in our eyes, joints, skin, and other tissues; with age, skin produce less and less HA resulting to drier and less elastic skin, read more about the science behind HA below which cited from their website. Read until the end of the post to find out my rating for these products.

Ingredients: (Original)

From Cosdna analysis, all ingredients are rated safe except for Methylparaben which flagged yellow. Methylparaben is controversial, it’s depend on your personal choice and judgement whether to avoid skincare with paraben.

Why Hada Labo is intensely Hyrating? (Acoording to Hada Labo website)

In youth, our skin is rich with HA—and our bodies readily produce it. With age and exposure to the sun's UVA and UVB rays though, our skin cells produce less and less HA. The result is drier, less elastic skin. With a reduced ability to retain moisture, skin also becomes wrinkled.

Dehydrated skin often has a higher skin pH level. HADA LABO products are formulated between a pH level of 5.0 and 6.5, helping balance your skin's pH level to maintain healthy, moisturized skin.

Super Hyaluronic Acid (SHA) replenishes the skin’s hydrating ability with two times the moisture-retention capacity of Hyaluronic Acid. Super Hyaluronic Acid, a patent pending ingredient, anchors to the different layers on the epidermis. As a result SHA has superior moisture-retention properties.

How to use?
After cleansing with Face Wash, pour a pea-size amount into your palm and rub between hands to heat. Using the Hada Labo Patting Technique, gently pat onto face and neck until thoroughly absorbed. Wait until the product fully absorbed to apply additional moisturizers. Use twice daily after washing face.

Hada Labo Patting Technique:
With its concentrated formulations, only a small amount of HADA LABO product is required. In many cases, warming by rubbing between the palms of the hands and then systematically patting on the face and neck is the recommended application. This patting technique enhances absorption and the moisturizing power of HADA LABO. Paired with circulation-boosting massage and other pampering rituals, it yields luxuriously effective results. My thoughts:
The packing is in the bottle plastic with plastic lift cap, no pump. The Original version has an orange theme and the Light version green theme. The lotion is clear / transparent and scentless; consistency of the original version is richer and the lighter version much more runny. Both are easily spread and absorbs quickly. I prefer the lighter version, the consistency is just perfect. I found the original version slightly tacky. Both version of lotion indeed hydrate my skin really well. I don’t find difference in the effectiveness of both products, neither one is more superior to the other in term of effectiveness in delivering hydration to my skin. I prefer the lighter version since it is much runny and quicker to absorb compared to the original version besides I find the lighter version suitable for my combination skin type as recommended by Hada Labo. In addition it really preps my skin to absorb other layers of skin care. Bottom line this is hands down by far the best hydrating lotion I’ve tried, it really lock moisture on my skin and the hydration last throughout the day unlike any other lotion. Hyaluronic Acid I am impressed! Good bye dry skin!

Pros
-Colourless, scentless, no mineral, no fragrance, no alcohol
-Light weight, absorbs quickly
-Lock moisture on my skin and hydration last throughout the day
-Preps skin to absorb layering of skincare
-Affordable
-Reputable brand
-Available widely in major drugstore and online

Cons
Contains paraben which is a controversial ingredient

Naruko Taiwan Magnolia Brightening and Firming Night Gelly EX Review

Anyeong yeorobun~

Today review is for Naruko Taiwan Magnolia Brightening and Firming Night Gelly EX. If you follow my post, I did introduced this Naruko brand before. It is a brand from Taiwan founded by beauty guru Niu-Er. This brand basically based on natural plants ingredients, free of harmful ingredients such as parabean, talc silicone, mineral oil etc. Niu-Er spent 20 years studying & researching skincare ingredients and 7 years developing product, as a result Naruko was born. That’s impressive right? Coming back to the night Gelly, at first when I saw this product, I thought they misspelled the Jelly as Gelly, afterwards I found out that the Gelly actually derives from combination of the words Gel and Jelly due to the texture consistency resemble in between Gel and Jelly, thus the name Gelly. This night Gelly is a sleeping mask which you put on overnight and wash of in the morning, claims to whiten, moisturized and provide anti-aging/firming effect besides the essential oil for calming/therapeutic effect.

Product profile:
Product Name: Naruko Taiwan Magnolia Brightening and Firming Night Gelly EX
Origin: Taiwan
Content: 80g
Price: RM45
Available: Naruko
Function: Overnight Mask
Suitability: All skin types, especially recommended for dull, aging and flabby skin.

Came in a sturdy container bottle

 Came with lid and spatula

The content inside

Product claims:
The Magnolia Brightening and Firming Night Gelly EX is an “intensively defensive” firming and anti-dullness jelly continuously repairing aging skin during the night. After upgrading this new formula, the efficacy of firming and removing wrinkles creating a strong radiant glow is strengthened effectively, initiating 3 major functions of anti-aging, delaying aging and whitening. The 3 major functions form an advanced important mechanism of the platinum skin age defending chain and starlux whitening net, helps ingredients to penetrate into the skin to delay aging and decrease generation of melanin. Therefore, you will wake up to a translucent and whitening glow after a sound sleep. Uniting 4 effects including ANTI AGING, DELAYING AGING, WHITENING, MOISTURIZING.

How to use:
1. Apply after skincare routine at night. Spoon out about the amount of 2 soybeans.
2. Evenly rub it around with pulp of middle finger and ring ringer, and take deep breath to feel the aroma of compound plant essential oils.
3. Extend it to skin in sequence of rubbing and pressing gently.
4. It is not necessary to rinse after applying it, you can go to bed after fully absorb and rinse off in the morning.

Ingredients:
Overall the ingredients listed are safe except for Triethanolamine often abbreviated as TEA, which is known as irritant, organ toxic and environmental toxicity. Determined safe for use in cosmetics, subject to concentration or use limitations - Safe for use in cosmetics with some qualifications. Refer Cosmetic Database link to know more.

My thoughts:
This mask came in a sturdy bottle container with inner lid cover and a mini plastic spatula for hygiene purpose. The consistency of the Gelly close to gel like yet softer, bouncy, spreadable; white almost translucent in colour. The scent is of a flower/herbal and not the best scent to my nose, I dislike the scent but its bearable. It spread and blend well on skin without stickiness or tackiness. It felt like moist layer of invisible mask on skin but breathable. I found this mask brighten and hydrate my skin well, it does what it claims except for the firming and anti-aging which produce no immediate visible result. Since this product contains a lot of plant extract, it is best to empty within 6 months. Overall a decent night mask, personally I will not be re-purchase since I don’t enjoy the scent.

Kiehl’s Calendula Deep Cleansing Foaming Face Wash Review

Anyeong yeorobun~

Again trying to catch up to review all the used products and today I am writing a review for Kiehl’s Calendula Deep Cleansing Foaming Face Wash. This is the only product I have tried from their Calendula line, I know that their Calendula toner is one of their best seller in this line, have you tried? It reminded me of the Holika Holika Calendula Toner which I have tried a few years ago, I have not repurchase the toner since it doesn’t really hydrating enough for me and I prefer gel formula toner. I have yet to try Kiehl’s Calendula toner since I have The Saem Harakeke toner which is quite good for me for now. This Calendula cleanser is suitable for normal to oily skin – it is soap free, sulfate free and parabean free, which is gentle for most people.

Packing in a plastic bottle with pump dispenser

In clear transparent fluid - medium viscosity

Lather up - not super rich but quite soapy

Product profile:
Product Name: Kiehl’s Calendula Deep Cleansing Foaming Face Wash
Origin: USA
Content: 230ml
Price: RM120
Available: Kiehl’s
Function: Facial Cleanser

Product claims:
Gently lifts away impurities, dirt, and oil without stripping skin, safe for sensitive skin
Creamy gel formula activates with water to create a rich foam
Skin looks instantly refreshed and revitalized
Soap Free, Paraben Free

How to Apply:
Apply small amount to clean fingertips. Gently massage into damp facial areas in upward, circular motions. Avoid immediate eye area. Rinse thoroughly or remove excess with damp face wash.

Kiehl’s Insider Tips:
For best results, begin with uniquely foaming Calendula Deep Cleansing Foaming Face Wash, then follow with cult-favorite Calendula Herbal Extract Alcohol-Free Toner where needed. Your skin will be cleansed, soothed, and ready for your serum and moisturizer.

Ingredients
Aqua/Water, Sodium Cocoyl Glycinate, Coco-Betaine, Glycerin, Acrylates Copolymer, Sodium Chloride, Phenoxyethanol, Sodium Hydroxide, Tetrasodium EDTA, Propylene Glycol, Citrus Limon Peel Oil/Lemon Peel Oil, Anthemis Nobilis Flower Oil, Limonene, Calendula Officinalis Flower Extract, Citric Acid.

Ingredients analysis here at Cosdna shows mostly safe ingredients except for the added Limonene solvent/fragrant might cause irritation for sensitive skin.

My thoughts:
The cleanser has a faint herbal scent and it’s in clear transparent liquid consistency. It does lather up with water and foam up pretty decently. It doesn’t dry up skin and leaves skin feel hydrated, clean and smooth without feeling squeaky clean/tight feeling. I use one pump per wash each time and a little goes a long way and this 230ml bottle cleanser last about 5 months. The only major down side to this cleanser is that the gel harden and clog the pump nozzle after quite a while, making hard to pump and waste of products. Overall, a good cleanser for those looking for a basic facial cleanser.

Pros:
-Skin feels hydrated, clean and smooth without leaving skin feeling tight or over dry
-Gentle formula – parabean free, soap free
-Last a long time for 230ml

Cons:
-The gel harden and clog the pump nozzle
-Added fragrant in the ingredients – some people might be sensitive to it

Tea Tree Oil Comparison Review

Hello Pretty~

I have tried two different brands of Tea Tree oil - The Body Shop new and older version and The Thursday Plantation. I bought them to treat occasional breakouts on my face. Read the review on each different brand here and here. Between the two brands I found the Body Shop one the best so far, read my details post to know more. In summary, the Thursday Plantation is a multipurpose Tea Tree Oil which is more versatile to use and treat acne too but the Body Shop one is formulated to treat acne purpose, thus it is more effective than the Thursday Plantation in treating acne.

The white color one is the newer version of The Body Shop Tea Tree Oil

The dispenser allow for easy usage

The old version and newer version of The Body Shop Tea Tree Oil

Have you tried the Body Shop Tea Tree Oil?
